GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is a foundation of public law jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany (90 %) and the state of Schleswig-Holstein (10 %) and is one of the internationally leading institutions in the field of marine sciences. Currently GEOMAR disposes over an annual budget of approx. 75 million Euro and has approx. 1000 employees.

The research unit “Physical Oceanography” of the research division “Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics” is offering a

Physical Oceanography

starting on July 1st 2018.

Project Description
• Analyze and report on the observing networks that exist in the Atlantic Ocean.
• Develop guidelines for observing networks in the Atlantic Ocean.
• Analyze and report on glider surveys within the Eastern Atlantic Ocean.

Qualification
• Diploma or Master of Science in Physical Oceanography or a closely related field.Fluency in written and spoken English (CEFR level B2 or better) is required.
• Good communication skills are expected.
• Knowledge about different types of ocean observing systems is of advantage.

The position is available for a funding period until June, 30, 2019. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a full-time position. The position can be split, but the full 100% of the position must to be covered. The fixed-term contract shall comply with Section 2 Paragraph 1 of The Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (German WissZeitVG).
