Position for a Ph.D. student / Doctoral candidate

starting at the earliest possible date within the joint project “Physical processes and long-term variability (BANINO)”

Job Description
Investigation of warm and cold water occurrences, the so-called Benguela Niños und Niñas, by means of a climate model under current climatic conditions and under global warming.

Qualification
• Diploma / M.Sc. in natural sciences (e.g. Meteorology, Atmospheric Dynamics, Physical Oceanography, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Climate Physics, Physics or equivalent);
• Experience with climate models, analysis of climate model data and/or statistical methods;
• Programming skills (e.g. Unix/Linux, Fortran as well as Matlab, Ferret and/or Python);
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team;
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
The position is available for a funding period of 36 months. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a part-time position according to 75 % of a full-time equivalent. The position cannot be split. The fixed-term contract shall comply with Section 2 Paragraph 1 of The Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (German WissZeitVG).
